Strange Laptop Shutdowns and Shoddy Service!
(The following has been provided by Sally in New York)

I ordered a dell notebook and received it with something I didn’t order: immediate problems! For whatever reason, the computer would shut down immediately after boot up. After spending hours on the telephone with tech support, Dell finally decided they would replace it.

The replacement arrived with the same problems. This time I had to spend over 20 hours on the telephone with tech support. In the process, they had me totally take it apart and reinstall all the components... not once, not twice, but THREE times while on the phone. Even this was not enough to convince them something was wrong. Instead, we had to spend several more hours doing endless installations and removing various software from the notebook.

Finally, it was decided the problem could not be corrected and after returning the laptop once again, they shipped me another notebook. Unfortunately, I was not home when it arrived and the person accepting it just signed for it. When I did get back, I found they had sent me a refurbished notebook to replace my new one!!!!

Complaining about this did nothing. According to Dell, it was legal for them to send a refurbished unit and as a consequence, I’m stuck with it. I’ve written, emailed, and called them to no avail, even though they offered no compensation to make up the difference.

The sad part is that it took a used notebook to arrive in working order!
